Our principles
Responsibility with attitude
Our work is guided by clear values and principles – worldwide and every day. People are always at the heart of everything we do, especially the well-being of children and families. We take responsibility – with conviction, consistency, and care.
Child protection and children's rights are our top priority. Every child has the right to protection, support, and a childhood free from violence. We consistently ensure that our projects create safe spaces where children are respected and empowered.
Sustainability is more than a principle for us – it's our commitment. We think long-term, promote independent local development, and rely on partnerships that enable a future.
Transparency and quality assurance form the foundation of our actions. We document, reflect on, and report openly on our work – so that trust can grow and impact remains visible.
These principles are not just guidelines, they are part of our identity.
For a world where every child is seen, protected, and empowered.
Child Protection The protection and support of disadvantaged children has been a central mission of the Sisters from the very beginning. Especially in countries and regions where child labor, child poverty, health and social neglect, as well as the consequences of war and disasters pose enormous challenges, the Sisters make an invaluable contribution to child protection. In our institutions, too, staff members are committed to upholding the protection of children and young people. We also respect the particular vulnerability of children in our public relations and educational work.
Children's Rights The Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus make a significant contribution to the realization of children's rights in various regions on three continents. Their daily work is centered on the three principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: protect, promote, and include. Through their commitment, they ensure that children can grow up in safe and nurturing environments. They provide comprehensive educational initiatives, access to healthcare, and social support to guarantee that children's rights to protection, development, and participation are upheld. Their work helps ensure that children's rights are not merely theoretical concepts, but are lived and realized in practice.
Sustainability The Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus are committed to education as the key to sustainable development in 10 countries, thereby providing a powerful impetus for achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Their work is deeply rooted in a sense of responsibility for creation, which encompasses sustainability in all its facets – ecological, social, economic, and cultural. Through their diverse initiatives, the sisters make a significant contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. They not only create educational opportunities but also promote holistic development, empowering people to act responsibly towards creation and to shape a sustainable future. For example, the following initiatives can be linked to the Sustainable Development Goals: 1. No Poverty (Goal 1): In Cazucá, Colombia, the sisters are committed to supporting internally displaced persons by operating daycare centers and reception centers. These facilities offer children a safe environment and educational opportunities to break the cycle of poverty. 2. Health and Well-being (Goal 3): On the island of Madura in Indonesia, the sisters operate a popular health center that improves healthcare in the region. This facility contributes to the overall health and well-being of the community. 3. Quality Education (Goal 4): In Indonesia, the sisters operate 29 educational institutions on six islands, providing access to quality education for over 10,000 children and young people. These institutions promote not only academic knowledge but also cultural education and social integration. 4. Gender Equality (Goal 5): In Colombia, the sisters promote the education of girls and boys through their schools in Bosa and Belén, providing young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with access to education and social services. 5. Clean Water and Sanitation (Goal 6): In many of their initiatives, the sisters prioritize access to clean water and sanitation to promote community health and protect the environment. 6. Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11): The sisters contribute to the social and economic development of communities by providing education and healthcare services that improve the quality of life in the regions. 8. Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (Goal 16): The sisters' work is characterized by absolute non-violence in word and deed. In this way, they empower children, strengthen the social fabric, and promote peace and justice in the regions where they work. Through these targeted projects and initiatives, the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus make a valuable contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and creating a better future for all.
